SEM picture of
magnetic polyvinyl alcohol carriers (av. diameter = 2 µm).
About
80% of the carrier media on the market consist of hydrophobic
materials, which are often not biocompatible, resulting in
a limited utility. To overcome this problem and to have a
polymer matrix which is easy to manufacture and modify, chemagen
has developed an innovative suspension-based production process,
patented worldwide and allowing economical production of biocompatible
magnetic beads based on polyvinyl alcohol. The sizes and magnetizations
of these M-PVA beads are individually tunable as is the loading
withvarious ligands.
The striking
advantages of M-PVA Magnetic Beads and the innovative production
process are:
- the
hydrophilicity of the PVA surface,
- the
biocompatiblity, which enables the use of M-PVA Magnetic
Beads in medical therapy,
- the
individually tunable sizes of the M-PVA Magnetic Beads,
depending on the application,
- the
chemical functionality of the matrix, which can be used
for the most different modifications,
- the
high ligand binding capacity.
These
advantages lead to excellent magnetic particles applicable
in a huge variety of separation and purification processes.

chemagen's
M-PVA magnetic beads are manufactured using a patented water
in oil stirring method. The method enables the production
of particles in a narrow size distribution, moreover, the
controlled variation of particle sizes is possible over a
wide range. The first figure shows the typical Coulter-outputs
of our standard size ranges:
0.5 - 1, 1 - 3 and 5 - 8 µm*.
The index on the product name contains information concerning
the particle size as shown in the following example: |
